My precious wife, the same woman who regularly rebukes me for inordinate candy consumption, returned from a trip to Costco with a 2 kg jar of Jelly Belly Jelly Beans.
It’s really unpleasant when I inadvertently pop mismatched flavours into my mouth: ie. coffee and popcorn. Bleh.
I turn 27 in a few weeks. Twenty-seven seems really old. I assume the wonderment at the rapidity of time passing never goes away. My mother recently turned 50 and seemed to be in a state of horrified denial the month leading up to her birthday.

With our current, 12-hour-days, I haven’t really felt like writing about anything. But I dislike visiting an online journal regularly only to find the same post since… I don’t know… October.
Anyway, I have a whole slew of new students and I actually like them quite a bit more than my first batch of monsters. In particular, I have a student that distinctly reminds me of my brother as a little boy. Except Korean. He has the same twitchy energy and odd excited-eye-blinking thing. It was really weird for me the first couple days because it isn’t just a slight resemblance… it is my brother reincarnated as a Korean. On the second day he was the only one in his class to not do his homework, and his little hands were shaking as I walked over with my check sheet. I felt so sorry for him I almost started to cry. I hope I don’t get my sister next month. She was always a little bossy.
About my sister, she has opted to join a Pilates class near her house. Is it for the fitness and healthy lifestyle, you ask? No. It’s run by the girl who played Felicity on “Road to Avonlea.” Natalie is hoping to become best friends with her and somehow have some insider connection to Megan Follows, no doubt. I hope they do become friends, just for the moment when Felicity walks into my sister’s house and sees the shelves and walls covered with “Anne of Green Gables” paraphernalia and realizing that she has befriended Annie Wilkes à la “Misery.” Minutes later she’s dragging her shattered ankles across the floor as Natalie (donning a red-braided wig) demands to have Anne Shirley’s phone number.

Happy New Year.
We’re back from our little vacation in Gyeungju. In hindsight, a springtime resort area may not have been the choiciest choice for December. It dropped to -20 degrees. Fortunately, we were staying at a Floor & Breakfast with paper walls.![]()
