We saw Dan off at the airport today. Somehow we ended up at the same lounge we in which we sat when Dan and Lina saw us off to Korea. And then Dan and Laura left through the same security check. I’m becoming more accustomed to goodbyes. When Dan left for Korea back in 2004 it was awful. Today was sad, but I know that we’ve become adept at staying in touch over long distances.
Don’t be dismayed at goodbyes. A farewell is necessary before you can meet again. And meeting again, after moments or lifetime, is certain for those who are friends. ~Richard Bach

I thought about skipping September again, like I did last year. But I’m not gonna.
We are now living in Mississauga. The move itself was pretty uneventful. Some guys from church helped out and we didn’t have too much stuff so it was pretty quick. The thing is, we weren’t able to really unpack for several days due to the state of the basement.
Although the basement is technically finished, it continued to be a storage area for the family. I don’t know why it didn’t occur to us to work on moving their stuff out of the way before we actually moved all our things down there too, but it didn’t. For some reason I guess I assumed that it would be prepared for us, which in hindsight is pretty presumptuous. Regardless, the basement was full of crap when we moved in. A full-size copy machine, a huge home gym thing, wardrobes, old kitchen chairs, a futon.
So our first few days here were stressful. I would travel to Burlington for work, and come home to disaster. Once we were able to manoeuvre the biggest eyesores into other storage areas, the atmosphere improved greatly. We now have the place divided into library, lounge and kitchen (with bathroom and bedroom already separate). On the weekend we hung up our last picture and unpacked our last dish. And it’s done. There’s lots of space down here. I’d take pictures but the walls are still tapioca coloured.
Dan leaves for Canmore tomorrow. We’ll be seeing him off at the airport.
